The La Malagueta Bullring once again becomes the cultural epicenter of Malaga with the official presentation of the poster for the Corrida Picassiana 2026, an event that combines contemporary art and bullfighting tradition in one of the most emblematic venues of the city.
The artist Jacob Vilatógrand-nephew of Pablo Picassohas been commissioned to sign the work that will illustrate this special edition, to be held on April 4, 2026 in the bullring of Paseo de Reding.
La Malagueta bullring, turned into an art form
One of the most singular elements of the poster is the use of the original sand from the bullring of La Malagueta as pictorial material. Vilató has directly incorporated the sand of the bullring in Malaga into the work, establishing a physical and symbolic link between the bullfighting arena and artistic creation.
The result is a piece that not only represents the Corrida Picassiana, but also contains part of the bullring itself, integrating texture, color and memory in the artistic support. The albero, the visual protagonist, provides identity, roots and authenticity.
The Corrida Picassiana: tradition and avant-garde
The Corrida Picassiana has established itself as one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Malaga bullfighting calendar. Inspired by the universal figure of Picasso and his relationship with the world of bullfighting, this annual event transforms the bullring into a space where bullfighting and bullfighting converge:
- Contemporary Art
- Historical heritage
- Bullfighting tradition
- Malaga identity
Vilató’s choice reinforces this dialogue between generations, connecting Picasso’s legacy with a current artistic perspective.
