The Diputación de Málaga presents the artistic scenography of the Picassiana bullfight, a work by Pablo Alonso Herráiz

The painter Pablo Alonso Herráiz has presented the official poster for the Corrida Picassiana 2025, in which he will make an artistic intervention on the ringside tables, evoking the different stages of the master Pablo Picasso.
The event, which will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m., will feature a first-class line-up, made up of the bullfighters Saúl Jiménez Fortes, Juan Ortega and Roca Rey, who will fight bulls from the Álvaro Núñez ranch.
The presentation took place at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo, with the presence of the president of the Diputación de Málaga, Francisco Salado, the councilor of Fiestas, Teresa Porras, the businessman of Lances de Futuro, José María Garzón, the president of the Academy, José Manuel Cabra de Luna, and the bullfighter Saúl Jiménez Fortes, who was awarded the Silver Estoque for his outstanding performance in the fair of 2024.
An artistic and cultural tribute
During the event, Francisco Salado highlighted the avant-garde nature of bullfighting and its growing attraction among young people, defining it as a modern cultural expression of great impact. He also highlighted Picasso’s historical relationship with the San Telmo Academy and with La Malagueta bullring itself, where the painter attended bullfights as a child with his father.
The bullfight poster, the work of Pablo Alonso Herráiz, reflects a modern and avant-garde style, with influences from classical poster design and a clear nod to Mexican artistic tradition. Herráiz, considered one of the most innovative painters on the Spanish scene, combines his artistic work with teaching at the University of Guadalajara (Mexico).
As part of this initiative, the poster will be donated and exhibited in the future Center for Immersive Experiences of Bullfighting.
La Malagueta recovers its historical essence
The bullring of Malaga will wear a special scenery for the occasion. In collaboration with Lances de Futuro, the Diputación de Málaga has designed a setting that recalls the origins of the bullring. The bullring will have the stripes painted red, the boxes on the second floor will be decorated with garlands and those on the second floor with flags of Spain, Andalusia and manila shawls.
In addition, a tradition of yesteryear will be recovered: the announcement of the bullfights by loudspeakers, as it was done in Malaga until the 70s.
