Most Frequently Asked Questions about the Traditional Picassian Bullfight

The Picassian Bullfight (Corrida Picassiana) is a unique annual bullfighting event held at La Malagueta Bullring in Malaga, Spain. It combines traditional bullfighting with art and culture as a tribute to Pablo Picasso, the world-famous painter born in Malaga. In a traditional Spanish bullring, seating is divided into three zones based on sun exposure during the event: sol (sun), sol y sombra (sun and shade) and sombra (shade).

Bullfights in Spain are held in the late afternoon — the Picassian Bullfight starts at 6:00 PM — when the sun is still relatively low and shines directly onto one side of the arena. Shade seats (sombra) are on the side that remains in shadow throughout the entire event, making them the most comfortable option. Sun seats (sol) are on the opposite side and are exposed to direct sunlight for most or all of the event. Sol y sombra seats start in the sun and move into shade as the event progresses.

For the Picassian Bullfight on April 4th, the weather in Malaga is typically mild (around 18–22°C), so sun seating is normally manageable — unlike the August fair, where temperatures can exceed 35°C and shade is much more demanded. That said, sombra seats are always the more comfortable and prestigious choice, also because the bullfighter normally helds the fight next to the Shade, and they tend to sell out first. If comfort is a priority, book shade seating early.

As a general rule: sol = budget-friendly, sombra = premium experience, sol y sombra = best value middle ground.

VIP individual tickets (€261.68) give access to a shared VIP box in the shade section, with unlimited gourmet catering (cold and hot tapas, Iberian cured meats, desserts and premium drinks), private waiter service, and priority entry through the VIP gate.

Private VIP boxes (from €2,415) include the same services for an exclusive group of 10–13 people, plus a private guided tour of the bullring and its immersive museum.
